This page is in memory of Karyl Heathman who was an amazing leader in our Aussie Rescue community. She inspired many and is greatly missed. Karyl’s passion was to work with others to find loving safe homes for Aussies. She loved helping Aussies and herding mixes.
The dogs listed on this page are currently in shelters. For more information, please contact the listed shelter directly. If you find your next furry family member on this page, you can thank Karyl!

I am a neutered male, white and black Australian Shepherd.
From Snoopy’s Foster Mom: Snoopy is a gorgeous young fella, with a ton of love to give! He is what we describe as “naturally caffeinated” at the young age of 6-7 months old- he loves to romp and play with his foster sibs and enjoys a good zoomie session in the morning & evening. He’s eager to make friends but a little shy, so going slow and letting him take his time to warm up is the best way to win him as one of your best friends. He is a little leash reactive to other dogs, but off leash made friends really fast with the other dogs in his foster home- especially the smallest one who is now his bestie. He’s not overly food motivated, and won’t take treats at all if he’s anxious or overstimulated. He eats meals well and has responded to treats for training once he got comfortable. He LOVES toys and has made it a mission to take everything out of the toy box at least once a day, and rotate through chewing on them all. He’s started to play fetch, bringing toys over he wants you to throw for him, tennis balls are a favorite. He loves to be with people too- following us around the house, making sure he always knows where we are. He taught himself how to use the dog door on day 6, and has adapted pretty well to being in the crate at night or when we leave the house- although he will fuss a bit for the first few minutes.
Snoopy would love a family that either has other dogs (not a good fit for a cat home) or can set up some playdates with dog friends semi-regularly. He would love humans who like to walk and hike and are eager to bring him along as much as possible. He wants to share in your life as much as he can, including sitting on the couch with you at night and following you into the bathroom at a mostly respectful distance. He will need training and patience as he is still growing, learning and testing boundaries at his age. We’re working on leash manners, but he’s already got a solid Sit command- very smart boy! Snoopy mainly just wants to be loved and have fun with his humans and enjoy every day to its fullest in a safe and dedicated home and family.
Snoopy is in a foster home and not housed at the shleter. Please contact our foster coordinator at vbasfosterinfo@gmail.com to arrange a meet and greet.

I am a spayed female, black and tricolor Australian Shepherd.
I’m a sweet, happy go-getter with a big heart and an even bigger wiggle butt! I absolutely love playing fetch (I even know “drop it”—how cool is that?), and my pig toy is my best friend. I take it with me everywhere, so you’ll always know where I am!
I’m an adventure dog at heart but also love my quiet time with a nice long nap after a good play session. At first, I can be a little shy, but once I warm up, I’ll be all about the affection. I’m a total people-pleaser and thrive on love and attention. If you’re looking for a sweet, balanced pup with a perfect mix of energy and calm, I could be the one for you! Let’s go on some adventures and cuddle up afterward!

Meet Jett – A Brave Soul Ready for a Fresh Start Jett is a stunning 3-year-old blue merle Australian Shepherd with a past that’s made him a little wary of the world. He’s still learning to trust people, but with patience, kindness, and a gentle approach, he’s beginning to open his heart. Despite his tough start, Jett finds comfort in the company of other dogs and absolutely loves playing ball—it’s his favorite way to have fun and build confidence. He’s looking for a patient and understanding person who will let him take things at his own pace, earning his trust through love and consistency. Jett has so much potential to be a devoted and loving companion. Could you be the one to show him that the world can be a safe and loving place? Meet Sadie – A Sweet Girl Ready for a Loving Home
Sadie is a 1-year-old Blue Merle Australian Shepherd mix who’s had a rough start in life but is learning to trust and find her way. Despite her challenging past, she’s a sweet soul who is beginning to open up and show her true potential. Sadie can be a bit shy at first and takes her time to warm up to new people, but with patience and love, she’s learning that it’s okay to trust again. Sadie will need to be in a home with at least one other dog to help her feel comfortable and confident. Ideally with her brother Jett, who is also in the same foster home. Sadie is looking for a patient and understanding family who can continue her socialization journey and help her become the happy, confident dog she deserves to be. She’ll thrive in an environment where she can feel safe and supported as she learns to navigate the world with more confidence Sadie is also cat friendly. If you’re ready to give Sadie the time and love she needs, pleas email sbcassouthcountyfostercoordinator@gmail.com. She’s waiting for the perfect family to help her blossom into the loving companion she’s meant to be.
